Baptism

Why Baptism?

Baptism is symbolic of what Jesus has done for us and tells that story by dramatically illustrating Jesus’ death to satisfy the cost of our sin.  That we enter and leave the water reminds us of His resurrection from the dead and His triumph over death and sin.

We now share in His life, by faith receiving His free gift of forgiveness.  Baptism illustrates that we have “died to sin, but are now raised to walk in newness of life.”  (See Romans 6:1-14)   We are baptized in obedience to Jesus, because He commands that his followers will baptize people who have received Him as Lord.  Jesus said,

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Origin baptizes people who received Jesus as Lord by immersion in water.  If you are interested in being baptized please speak with a pastor, your LifeGroup leader, or email us at originchurch.ca@gmail.com  We will gladly meet up with you and go through a one hour baptism course.  After the course we can continue to explore with you what Jesus is saying to you in the matters of baptism and following Him.

As new disciple of Jesus, baptism in water is one of our first steps of obedience to Jesus.  It is a sign

1) that we have experienced Jesus’ grace to forgive our sins;

2) that we are now following Jesus as his disciples;

3) that we are identifying with His Church who has also experienced God’s grace through Jesus.
